On the morning of May 20, 2016, Huaihua University held an inauguration ceremony for the "Hunan Provincial Engineering Laboratory for Polyvinyl Alcohol Fiber Material Preparation Technology" and the "Huaihua University Materials Technology Engineering Center." This marks a deep collaboration between Huaihua University and Hunan Xiangwei Co., Ltd., and is a model of university-enterprise cooperation and industry-academia integration in Huaihua City.
The laboratory, approved by the Hunan Provincial Development and Reform Commission, is the first Hunan Provincial Engineering Laboratory in Huaihua City and the only laboratory in my country specializing in engineering technology research on the preparation of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers and functional materials. With a total investment of 23.2 million yuan, it mainly focuses on the research and industrial transformation of new materials and products such as tensile fibers and green, environmentally friendly, and functional polyvinyl alcohol fibers.
Polyvinyl alcohol fiber materials are widely used in clothing, industrial materials, and decorative materials. Especially with the development of flame-retardant materials and the continuous expansion of the flame-retardant material market, research on polyvinyl alcohol fibers has received increasing attention. To gain a competitive edge and establish the "National Engineering Center for Polyvinyl Alcohol Fiber Materials Technology," the laboratory has specially hired Professor Wei Gaoyuan, a renowned polymer chemist from the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University, as its technical leader. Based on professional teachers from the School of Chemistry and Materials Engineering at Huaihua University, the laboratory has joined forces with professional and technical backbones from Hunan Xiangwei Co., Ltd. to form a research and development team to carry out scientific research.
