Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a stable, non-toxic, water-soluble polymer obtained by the polymerization and alcoholysis of vinyl acetate. PVA molecules contain numerous hydroxyl groups, which can form a physical cross-linked network through hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces. After treatment with methods such as cyclic freeze-thaw cycles, it exhibits rubber-like elasticity and excellent mechanical properties. Its tensile strength, compressive strength, flexibility, and ductility are far superior to most hydrogel materials, making it an ideal flexible substrate material widely used in wearable devices, implantable medical devices, tissue engineering, and composite hydrogels.
Yuanzheng Biotech's PVANB is a photosensitive functionalized biomaterial that introduces o-nitrobenzyl alcohol (NB) groups into the PVA molecule. It retains the excellent mechanical properties and biocompatibility of PVA while adding photoresponsive cross-linking and bio-coupling capabilities, making it one of the core raw materials for constructing high-strength, functionalized hydrogels and bio-interfaces.
PVANB can be used in combination with biopolymers containing methacrylamide groups (such as HAMA and CMCMA). Under the action of a photoinitiator and light irradiation, PVANB can rapidly undergo copolymerization and cross-linking, forming a high-strength hydrogel network within seconds. Furthermore, based on the aldehyde groups released by PVANB photolysis, it can also covalently couple with amino-containing biomolecules (such as proteins, peptides, drugs, and active factors), achieving precise modification and enhancement of the hydrogel's biological functions.
