Polyvinyl Alcohol—Spreading Positive Energy and Mentoring Good Apprentices

ANHUI LIWEI CHEMICAL CO.,LIMITED

To accelerate employee development, the Polyvinyl Alcohol Operations Department, following the company's "Mentorship Management Measures," formulated and implemented a comprehensive "Passing on Experience and Promoting Improvement" activity. Adhering to the principle of "experienced mentoring newcomers," 18 mentor-apprentice pairs were formed through a voluntary, two-way selection process, selecting experienced employees with excellent work ethic and a strong sense of responsibility as mentors. This helps younger employees quickly overcome their lack of work experience and bridge the gap between theory and practice.

The spirit of the Foolish Old Man Who Moved Mountains teaches us that without the courage to think and act, it is impossible to change the status quo;

The spirit of craftsmanship teaches us that only through tireless effort towards a goal can anything be accomplished.

Today, the Ningxia Energy and Chemical Polyvinyl Alcohol Operations Department is building a high-speed "passing on experience and promoting improvement" mechanism, rapidly transferring the work experience and technical skills of the most outstanding business backbone to new employees, enabling them to become skilled professionals in their positions in the shortest possible time.

Acetic Acid Section Mentor: Xu Dianpeng Apprentice: Zhang Lei

A Day with My Mentor

Mentor, thank you for your hard work!

Main Achievements

Zhang Lei joined the acetic acid section this February, with virtually no prior knowledge of chemical production. His mentor told him that to quickly familiarize himself with the process, he needed to spend a lot of time on-site, studying blueprints, getting to know the site, building a solid foundation, thinking critically, and asking questions. Whenever Zhang Lei asked a question, his mentor patiently explained until he understood it. To reinforce memory and help him grasp key concepts more quickly, his mentor would ask Zhang Lei a question daily to assess his learning progress or provide clarification. Under his mentor's guidance, Zhang Lei has made rapid progress this year. He has mastered the processes of each unit in the acetic acid production process, including start-up and shutdown procedures. Furthermore, he won first prize in the Operations Department's Safety Month Gas Extinguishing Equipment Usage Competition this year; and third prize in the company's "119" Fire Prevention Week Gas Extinguishing Competition for "One Person, Two Hose".

Main Achievements: During his work, apprentice Wei Jingui diligently performed inspections as required by his mentor, identifying and promptly resolving potential hazards on-site. When the team faced a shortage of central control personnel, Wei Jingui was the first to step forward and proactively took on the DCS main control operation position. Through continuous learning, he also developed a keen responsiveness. On one occasion, during a mentor-apprentice shift, Wei Jingui, based on changes in the operating parameters of the eight distillation towers, determined that there might be tray blockage and obstruction in the midstream recovery pipeline. He immediately communicated with his mentor, confirmed the issue, and promptly reported to the area leadership, taking appropriate measures to prevent contamination of the storage tank products and further blockage of the trays.

Main Achievements: From joining the company until early 2016, Comrade Ma Shenglong operated the compressed air refrigeration station. Later, due to a reshuffling of positions in the operations department, the compressed air refrigeration position was merged into the alcoholysis position, marking a turning point in his career. During this period, his mentor guided him through two workshops, first familiarizing him with the entire PVA alcoholysis production process, from resin input to mixing with alkali in the mixer via the resin pump, to the final product warehousing. This provided him with a deep understanding of the entire alcoholysis production process, laying a solid foundation for his multi-position operation on-site. Under his mentor's guidance, he also gained a deeper understanding of the operating methods of each system in alcoholysis.

Mentor's Message: The Operations Department cares about the growth of young employees, making mentors their "close confidants," keeping abreast of their thoughts and work dynamics, closely monitoring their actual needs, establishing a smooth communication mechanism, and regularly conducting mentor-mentee talks to address their confusion and pressure in work, life, and thought.

The Polyethylene Operations Department creates a learning organization and team through "mentorship," forming a harmonious and mutually supportive team culture. The "mentorship" activity aims to mentor newcomers, using a learning method that combines theory and practice to help those being mentored grow rapidly. The "mentorship" activity advocates "passing on" wisdom, "helping" growth, and "cultivating" culture.
