Vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer emulsion (VAE emulsion) is a copolymer of vinyl acetate and ethylene, generally a water-based emulsion. It uses water as a dispersion medium, poses no health hazards, and is a powerful substrate adhesive. VAE emulsions are uniquely moisture-resistant and flexible and have better adhesion and tackiness at low temperatures and under humid conditions. They adhere well to non-porous surfaces such as vinyl and aluminum. These emulsions are widely used in adhesives, coatings, fabric processing, paper processing, construction, and other applications.
Tackiness and Adhesion: VAE emulsions have excellent tackiness and adhesion, enabling them to bond
strongly to a wide range of materials, both porous and non-porous surfaces, such as vinyl, aluminum, and
more. This strong adhesion capability makes VAE emulsions an ideal choice of adhesive.
Moisture Resistance: VAE emulsions have excellent moisture resistance and maintain stable adhesion even in
humid environments. This makes it particularly suitable for construction, coatings, and fabric processing
in humid or rainy areas.
Flexibility: VAE emulsions have excellent flexibility and are able to adapt to the deformation and
expansion of the substrate, ensuring a stable bond over time. This flexibility allows VAE emulsions to
excel in applications where bending or deformation is required.
Low-Temperature Performance: At low temperatures, VAE emulsions maintain their tack and adhesion without
hardening or cracking. This allows it to be used normally in cold regions or winter construction without
being limited by temperature.
Water-based and environmentally friendly: VAE emulsion uses water as a dispersing medium and does not
contain harmful solvents, making it environmentally friendly and free of health hazards. It meets the
requirements of modern industry for environmental protection and sustainable development.
Construction material: VAE emulsion is widely used in the construction industry to manufacture various
kinds of construction adhesives, such as dry powder, emulsion, hot melt adhesive, and spray type. It is
also commonly used in the production of lightweight mortar, self-leveling floor mortar, external wall
insulation mortar, high-performance ceramic tile adhesive, and so on.
Architectural coatings: VAE emulsion can improve the adhesion, weather resistance and water resistance of
coatings.
Textile printing and dyeing: VAE emulsion is used as auxiliaries for textile printing and dyeing , such as
printing adhesive, slurry, coating agent, etc., so that the fibers and dyes can be better combined. It
also enhances the bonding and setting performance of printing paste on fabrics, reduces its pollution to
the environment, and improves the printing quality.
Papermaking: VAE emulsion is used as papermaking auxiliaries, such as surface coatings, inner coatings,
pastes, etc. It can improve the air permeability, strength, and surface lubrication of paper. At the same
time, it can also enhance the adhesion and water resistance of coatings, reduce the amount of coating, and
improve the machine speed and gloss of paper.
Coating: VAE emulsion has a wide range of applications in the coatings field. It can be used in indoor and
outdoor architectural coatings, wood coatings, plastic coatings, body coatings, fluorescent coatings, and
so on.
Adhesive: Due to their high viscosity, VAE emulsions are often used as adhesives for bonding wood, paper,
and various materials. Common adhesive products include woodworking adhesives, acrylic emulsion adhesives,
and self-adhesive adhesives.
Label and sealing materials: VAE emulsions also play an important role in the field of labels and sealing
materials and can be used to manufacture label adhesives, sealants, sealing adhesives, tape adhesives, and
so on.
VAE emulsions can also be used to make acoustic panels and thermal insulation materials, which can
effectively insulate noise and heat and improve building comfort and energy efficiency.
Mix ethylene and vinyl acetate in a certain proportion and pass into the reactor. Add initiator and emulsifier, and carry out the emulsion polymerisation reaction under appropriate temperature and pressure. The reaction speed and temperature are controlled so that the monomer is completely converted to produce VAE emulsion.
VAE emulsion is a non-hazardous chemical, non-toxic and harmless to humans and the environment. However, during use, it is recommended to wear protective equipment such as gloves and goggles to prevent the emulsion from coming into contact with the skin and eyes. In case of accidental contact with skin or eyes, flush immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
