Kuraray's KURARAY POVAL™ K series belongs to category of KURARAY POVAL Modified PVA, which incorporates specific functional groups through chemical modification.
Its core modification feature is introduction of carboxyl groups into molecular structure of polyvinyl alcohol. This targeted modification gives this series properties that are difficult to replace with ordinary unmodified PVA and other types of modified PVA: on one hand, its water solubility and alkali resistance are superior to conventional PVA; on other hand, carboxyl groups endow it with excellent cross-linking reactivity and good compatibility with water-soluble polymers such as starch. KURARAY POVAL 25-88KL (K-L318) is a polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) product with a degree of hydrolysis of approximately 88% and a specific average molecular weight. Due to its excellent adhesion, easy water solubility and outstanding film-forming properties, it is widely used in adhesives, coatings, PVOH films, additives and chemical dispersants.
